The 309 was a competent mid-range hatchback which just lacked the image of irs little 205 brother. Peugeot were establishing a reputation for themselves as building cars that handled well and the 309 was no exception. The chasis cried out for a sporty top of the range car and the GTi fulfilled its promise adequately. These are still sought after today.
