The TR5 was a freshening up of the TR4 mechanicals until the TR6 came along. Triumph fitted the new 2500cc engine (with 2 extra cylinders) into a TR4 bodyshell and called it the TR5. It was a more muscluar car and was only prodduced between 1967 and 1968 but gave the buying public a glimpse of the power which would be coming in the next generation TR.
