The Mk 4 Golf was released in 1997. This model Golf was taken more upmarket to differentiate it from its Skoda and Seat cousins. It was offered with a bewildering array of engines and trim levels. In the performance arena the Mk IV was given the usual GTi offering and also the R32 which featured a powerful V6 engine.
