The Mk 1 scirocco was the result of the determination of Karmann. They had built the beautiful Karmann Ghia based on the Beetle floorpan and mechanicals and wanted to do something similar for the new Golf. The result was the Scirocco. Oddly enough this car debuted before the Golf that is was based upon.
